Speccheri Lake, a majestic dam and incredible colors of the water, from intense blue to emerald green

A majestic dam and incredible colors of the water, from intense blue to emerald green … do you know about Speccheri Lake? It can be reached from a couple of trails, challenging and with a significant height to climb. You go down to the shore of the lake, which opens up a range of wonderful colors when you’re near. The view from above is also very impressive. For the more adventurous, the path to descend along the lake is absolutely recommended. It won’t leave you disappointed!

In the national ranking of the highest dams, the Speccheri dam ranks third with 157 meters of height. The view both from below and from above gives a feeling of infinite majesty. The reservoir of Speccheri Lake was created in the 1950s by blocking the Leno di Vallarsa, a tributary of the Adige river. The water is then conveyed to a hydroelectric plant in the municipality of Ala and supplies the city of Verona with electricity.

The dam can be seen from the locality of Poiani above and from the homonymous hamlet of Speccheri below. Certainly, the feeling of greatness is fully rewarded from above, and a useful infographic table helps to better understand the numbers of this great artifact.

Tips and Tricks

Do you have children with you? In the locality of Camposilvano, you will find a small deer farm, shortly after the small town cemetery. Entry is free on a very pleasant path along a large enclosure with many kinds of animals that you can show your children up close. At the end of the mule track around the fence, you will find a breathtaking view of Speccheri Lake. It’s a pity that the administration has not installed a protective barrier. Getting there is very easy, and the ravine below is definitely dangerous for children. Our advice is to go there with due caution, keeping children at a safe distance.

Heartfelt congratulations to Paolo Stoffella and his group of friends who have been following the beautiful project of protection and safeguarding of the territory for several years.
