Lake Cei, a rare Alpine gem in terms of charm and beauty

Do you know this picturesque little lake just a few kilometres from Rovereto? Lake Cei is only a twenty-minute drive from Rovereto; after passing through the villages of Pedersano and Castellano, climbing to an altitude of about 900 m, you reach a dense beech forest and, immediately after, as if by magic, the small lake appears.

This Alpine pond is at its best during the autumn with the wonderful colours of the conifers reflected in its crystal-clear waters. Even during the other seasons, its proximity and ease of access allow you to have a Trentino beauty at your fingertips. Highly recommended!

Formed in 200 AD following a landslide, it is a place of considerable natural interest. Its waters are reflected in the Monte Bondone chain, which includes Monte Stivo (2045 m), Cima Palon (1915 m), la Becca (1571 m) and Monte Cornetto (2138 m).

During the summer months, the lake provides a special charm for hikers, families and anyone who wants to spend some time relaxing surrounded by nature. In addition to the classic walk around the lake, many paths lead up to the peaks above and explore the surrounding areas. The lake, for the more daring, allows bathing; during the warmer months a swim in its cool waters is truly regenerating. Not to be missed!

In the south-eastern part of the lake is a small island with forests of larch, birch and fir, while willows, reeds and rushes abound on the shores. Where the water is shallower, magnificent water lilies vegetate. The rarest and most precious species hosted is the Irissibirica, a beautiful blue iris. The biotope that was cleverly

has been created has also allowed the repopulation by numerous animal species: coots, ducks, small reptiles and amphibians will peep through the vegetation to enrich the emotions to take home.

In autumn, the brisk breeze descending from the peaks transforms the lake into an infinitely suggestive setting for those who love to shoot; the lake's foliage, the reflected image of pine and beech trees in the crystal-clear waters and its surroundings will fully satisfy those who wish to fill their eyes with therainbow of autumn colours.

During the winter months, the lake easily transforms into a sheet of ice on which some daredevils sometimes skate; otherwise, when the snow blanket covers the landscape, the poetry of white becomes magic.
